The police administration has said it will only grant bail to the eye witness of an alleged highway mass rape of passengers if a close relative is ready to sign the bail bond.
The lady, Amina Muhammad, has been in police custody at the CID headquarters since Saturday when she was picked up to assist the police in their investigations of the allegation.
Attempts by her lawyer to get her bail have been unproductive.
Prof. Ken Attafuah told Joy News the conditions are very difficult to meet.
He said the police were aware that the husband of the suspect had travelled
out of the jurisdiction and demanding a person who knows her properly to sign the bail bond was a bit problematic.
Prof Attafuah said the police were at the brink of violating the constitution by keeping Amina beyond the 48-hour mark.
The police have discounted Amina's claims that male passengers aboard a Tamale-bound bus had been forced to rape female passengers.
