A twenty-seven-year-old man, Kwadwo Manu, has been arrested for stealing four bags of cocoa suspected to belong to the Produce Buying Company Limited.
The suspect was arrested at Okurase near Nsawam, in a KIA Pride taxicab with registration number GN 8098 Z, loaded with four sacks of dried cocoa beans.
The sacks had the inscription of ‘Ghana Cocoa Board, Produce of Ghana’ on them.
Narrating the incident that led to his arrest, the Highways Patrol Commander, Superintendent Frank Wilfred Anning, said on Monday November 1, 2010, at about 4:30am, the patrol team detailed on the Accra-Anyinam-Konongo route, led by Inspector Joseph Nartey, spotted the cabbie with four passengers and ordered the driver to stop but he ignored the promptings of the police and sped off. He was however forced to stop at Adeiso. The three other suspects, sensing danger, took to their heels, leaving suspect Manu behind.A search on the vehicle revealed the four bags of cocoa beans concealed at the back of the car.
Manu was arrested and handed over to the CID Headquarters for investigations.
In another development, a patrol team detailed on the Accra-Cape Coast route on the same day ordered an Opel Kadet private car with registration GT 2503 E, at about 2:00am around Awutu Breku, to stop for a snap-check.
Two occupants on board immediately abandoned the car and took to their heels. A spot check on the car revealed two mini bags of maize mixed with salt, intended to lure goats and sheep, concealed under the rear seat.
The exhibits have since been kept at the Police Headquarters while investigation into the matter continues.
