President Professor John Evans Atta Mills has urged Ghanaians to bury their political differences and work towards building a united nation.
"I wish to urge you to pray ceaselessly for the nation, no matter what political party you belong to. We are collectively working to build a better Ghana and improve the lives of our people," he said.
The President made the appeal when he joined worshippers at the Prayer Cathedral of the Action Chapel International (ACI) in Accra yesterday as part of activities marking the weeklong convention of the church. The convention, dubbed "Impact 2010", is intended to create a
platform for Christians to thank God for the good work He had done and continues to do for the nation.
The occasion was also used to pray for the President, the government and the rest of Ghanaians.
Prayers were also said for the President, the government and the people of Cote d'Ivoire for the successful re-run of the presidential election in that country yesterday.
While at the ACI, the President also cut the tape to inaugurate a branch of the Fidelity Bank on the premises of the church.
President Mills bemoaned what he described as apathy on the part of some people towards offering their services to nation-building because they did not belong to the party in power, saying, "Civic duty is the responsibility of all, regardless of our party coloration."
He said as his administration journeyed into another year, he was confident that the Lord Almighty would continue to offer him the necessary protection to enable him to deliver on the promises he made to Ghanaians.
"I am confident that God is the President of this country and I am one of His servants. I promise that I will do His will and I request that you continue to pray for us," he said,
President Mills lauded the Archbishop of the ACI, Rev Dr Nicholas Duncan-Williams, for promoting peace and development in the church and the country at large and expressed his delight at being part of the weeklong convention,
Rev Dr Duncan-Williams prayed for the President and ministers of state and asked God to give them wisdom and strength to rule the country.
Preaching the sermon at the service, Rev Dr Jackie McCullough quoted from the Bible book of Philippians and urged Ghanaians to be confident in the Lord and not be despondent in the face of a few challenges.
She said God had a vision for the nation and that with confidence, faith and unity of purpose, that destiny would be attained by Ghanaians. Source: Daily Graphic
