A Class four pupil of Apeboso D/A Primary School in the Amansie Central District of Ashanti has been found hanging in one of the rooms of his family house.
Kwaku Prince, 16, was on Friday found by his classmate with a piece of sponge behind the door, moments after daybreak.
His 10-year-old classmate had come to wake him up to quicken preparations for school on Friday, since there was a football match between their school and another in a nearby community.
Police officers from Jacobu were in the farming community to carry out investigations and later conveyed the body of Kwaku Prince, whose father Nana Appiagyei, is the Odikro of Apeboso.
The incident, reminiscent of 9-year-old Gideon Owusu’s episode, left the Apeboso community spellbound.Gideon Owusu’s incident emerged after he took the Amoamo community in the Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region by surprise when he allegedly committed suicide in a nearby bush a couple of months ago.
In the latest case of child suicide, the 16-year-old boy allegedly took his own life because he was sometimes teased by some classmates of being “P-4 papa”, especially, whenever he got an answer to a question wrong in class, a joke he did not take kindly to.
“He has been wiped off from the earth’s surface because people did not believe him when he threatened to kill himself one day because of the unkindly joke. This threat was not known to me until his death,” the father of the boy revealed to newsmen.
According to Nana Appiagyei, he and some teachers had encouraged his son, Kwaku Prince to attend school in order to secure a better life for himself in the future, despite the deceased’s late start of school.
He recounted that the boy was a potential footballer and therefore wanted him to go to school at all cost since Prince was showing a lot of promise.
“I never thought my son would kill himself because of anything and it remains a shock to me,” the Odikro recounted.
A police source said the boy “had reportedly hanged himself in a room” and was found dead when police investigators went to the scene.
An autopsy has been ordered and results are pending, awaiting the next line of action.
