The police in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region are holding a 32-year-old pastor over the death of his alleged girlfriend in his mother's house.
Pastor Samuel Owusu, who heads the Church of God at Adansi Dompoase, had been living with the deceased, Akosua Dufie, 30, until October 29, 2010, when the girl died after visiting the pastor's mother at her Obuasi home.
The mother of the pastor, identified only as Auntie Mary, is also assisting the police in investigations over the death, the cause of which is yet to be established.
A member of the Deceased's family told The Mirror that Dufie, a mother of one, befriended the pastor when he arrived in the town for his pastoral duties about nine months ago.
The source said her family members advised her to break the relationship since they had seen the pastor wearing a wedding ring, but the woman ignored them.
About two months ago, a woman who was later found out to be the wife of the pastor went to Dompoase to warn Dufie about her relationship with her husband.
The woman, according to the family source, claimed the Pastor was her husband with whom she had a set of twins.
That notwithstanding, Dufie and the pastor continued their relationship until September 24, this year when Dufie informed her family that she was travelling to Obuasi but did not disclose exactly what she was going there to do.
The source said on October 9, 20 10, a woman who introduced herself as Antie Mary, the mother of Pastor Owusu, came to their house at Dompoase to inform them that Dufie visited her at Obuasi but had unfortunately died, and that her remains had been deposited at a private mortuary at Obuasi.
A report was made to the Fomena Police who later informed the Ohuasi Police, leading to the arrest of the pastor and his mother.
A police source at Obuasi confirmed the story but said they had started investigations into the death.
