Residents of Asokwa in the Ashanti Region have staged a street protest against Maxwell Kofi Jumah for his unguarded comments

Residents of Asokwa in the Ashanti Region have staged a street protest against their Member of Parliament, Maxwell Kofi Jumah for his unguarded comments.

The MP alleged on a radio station in Kumasi that Patricia Appiagyei former Mayor of Kumasi under the Kufuor administration only got her position by offering sexual favours.

The statement has provoked several criticisms and threats of nude demonstration by some women in the region who say the statement was offensive to the sensibilities of women in the country.

Mr. Jumah later in an interview with Joy News said his statement has been misconstrued but apologized nonetheless.

His apology notwithstanding, the New Patriotic Party says it will take disciplinary action against him.As if that is not enough, residents of the area on Tuesday took to the streets, accusing the MP of embarrassing the constituency.

“Enough is enough. [The MP is noted] for always making such utterances which is not good,” one of the demonstrating residents told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah.

Another said they are content with his apology but added the demonstration is to make their strong statement against the derogatory comments by the MP.
